In the name of Allah the Compassionate, the Merciful

AYAHS OF THE DAY: These are the limits set by Allah; those who obey Allah and His Messenger will be admitted to Gardens with rivers flowing beneath, to abide therein (forever) and that will be the supreme achievement. But those who disobey Allah and His Messenger and transgress His limits, will be admitted to a fire, to abide therein; and they shall have a humiliating punishment. [4: 13, 14]

HADITH OF THE DAY: A father is the strongest doors of Paradise. If you wish you may pull it down, or if you wish you may protect it. [Tirmidhi]

WISE QUOTE OF THE DAY: The primary meaning of the word Jihad is struggle or effort. This is a very important religious principle. It reminds us that religion is never something achieved or finished. The revelation is given, but those who follow it have to make it a constant effort, day by day, year by year, to put it into practice in a flawed and tragic world. [Karen Armstrong]

GUIDANCE OF THE DAY: Next in the overall treatment for the heart is the importance of keeping the company of good people, which is God's command: O You who believe, fear God and be among the truthful ones(Quran, 9:119). It is astonishing how people can influence others simply by being in each other's company. The company one keeps has major effects. It may lead to either benefit and improvement or harm and corruption, depending on whether the company is that of pure and eminent people or those who are immoral and evil. This effect does not appear suddenly, but is a gradual process that unfolds with time.

Good company includes those who are in the state of gratitude; they are thankful for what they have and do not waste time complaining. One takes on their excellent qualities. One should befriend people who elevate one's station. Anyone who tells you to indulge in the world is defrauding you. When it comes to worldly possessions; it is good to associate with people who have lesser means. The company of wealthy people opens a person to coveting what they have. When it comes to Hereafter; it is better to associate with people who are superior to you in their desire for the understanding for it. [Purification of the heart]

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Education is an ornament in prosperity and a refuge in adversity. It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Inshallah i will try to post this kind of thing daily

In the name of Allah the Compassionate, the Merciful

AYAHS OF THE DAY: Allah accepts the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and repent soon afterwards; to them will Allah turn in mercy; for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom. Of no effect is the repentance of those who continue to do evil, until Death faces one of them, and he says, "Now have I repented indeed; nor of those who die rejecting faith; for them We have prepared a punishment most grievous. [4: 17, 18]

HADITH OF THE DAY: Allah has forbidden you from the disobedience of your parents, parsimony, usurping the properties of others, and the burying alive of female infants; and has disapproved for you useless talking, excessive questioning and waste of property. [ Bukhari & Muslim]

WISE QUOTE OF THE DAY: Allah's generosity is connected to gratitude, and gratitude is linked to increase in His generosity. The generosity of Allah will not stop increasing unless the gratitude of the servant ceases. [Ali (radi Allahu anhu)]

GUIDANCE OF THE DAY: Companionship yields two kinds of impact: one that drags a person down to the compost of the world and the other that points toward God the Exalted and an existence that lasts for ever. A companion who tries to sell the ephemeral stuff of this life and makes it the substance of conversation and pursuit in dragging the soul earthward.

It is better, beyond compare, to seek out the company of those who help one achieve contentment with God. When one is content, little will suffice. But without contentment, nothing suffices.

Seeking refuge with God is the most efficacious treatment for all diseases of the heart, i.e., to go to God with complete unconditional imploring. What is meant here is urgently seeking refuge in God's protection and guidance, to seek this as if one were holding on to a thread over a canyon. It is begging, which before God is honorable. [Purification of the heart]

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance, it is a better safe guard of liberty than a standing army, it's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open mind.

In the name of Allah the Compassionate, the Merciful

AYAHS OF THE DAY: O you who believe! You are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Nor should you treat them with harshness, that you may take away part of their dower you have given them--except where they have been guilty of open lewdness; On the contrary live with them on a footing of kindness and equity. If you take a dislike to them it may be that you dislike a thing, and Allah brings about through it a great deal of good. [4: 19]

HADITH OF THE DAY: The noblest deed is that a person should be benevolent towards his father's friends. [Muslim]

WISE QUOTE OF THE DAY:Actions are but lifeless forms, whose soul is the secret of sincerity in them. [Ibn Ataillah]

GUIDANCE OF THE DAY: As for the action that is beneficial in purifying the heart, none is more effective than what is consistent, even if it is slight. It is important to know that "purification" is not a state, but an ongoing process. Just as we go through a day careful about our bodily cleanliness, we must similarly tend to our spiritual purity, for purification and sincerity do not survive a passive relationship. They are not qualities that are ignited and glow on without attendance. Left unattended, the heart becomes encrusted.

Unwholesome deeds accumulate and take away its purity. But with consistent work on self purification, the heart becomes cleansed and is kept that way. The Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) were consistent with their actions once they commenced them, when they took on supererogatory rites of worship (nawafil) they did so for the duration of their lives. It was something they embraced as a spiritual practice, and they did not abandon it.

This is not to say that this is an obligation. But if people wish to climb straight and climb right in their journey, their acts of worship should be regular and consistent. If a person sees himself inclined to a certain supererogatory worship rite, then he should follow it and be consistent. [Purification of the heart]

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Education is being able to differentiate between what you know and what you do not know. It is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or self confidence.

In the name of Allah the Compassionate, the Merciful

AYAHS OF THE DAY: But if you decide to take one wife in place of another, even if you had given the latter a treasure for dower, take not the least bit of it back; would you take it by slander and a manifest wrong. And how could you take it when you have gone in unto each other, and they have taken from you a solemn covenant? [4: 20, 21]

HADITH OF THE DAY: It is in fact the glorification of Allah to honor an aged Muslim; to honor one who has learnt the Quran by heart or is its interpreter, provided he makes no interpolations in it and does not contradict it by his conduct, and to respect a just ruler. [Abu Dawud]

WISE QUOTE OF THE DAY: There are four types of oceans; passions are oceans of sins, the self (nafs) is the ocean of lust, death is the ocean of life, and the grave is the ocean of distress. [Othman radi Allah anhu]

GUIDANCE OF THE DAY: The action that is beneficial in purifying the heart, also includes that which is done in the absence of witnesses, or action done purely for His love or out of awe of His majesty. If one gives charity openly, this is good, but in secret it is better. This protects against ostentation. An act of worship done for the love of God is a higher station than those acts done out of fear of Hellfire. This view does not belittle the fear of punishment, but it does assign a higher station to guiding one's conduct out of awe of God and a heightened sense of His majesty and greatness.

The purest deed is that done by someone free of worldly wants. The opposite of this is the deed of covetous one whose endeavors are ultimately insignificant. The zahid (ascetic) does what he does for no other reason than the pleasure and love of God. This is the highest action. In Islam, the essence of asceticism is a lack of want. The ascetic is the one who does not have attachment in his heart for material things. [Purification of the heart]

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: If you think education is expensive, try ignorance. The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.

Salam,

i really enjoy reading all the quotes and good stuff that u, Usman, post, but i have a question about one, if thats ok...

* "GUIDANCE OF THE DAY: Next in the overall treatment for the heart is the importance of keeping the company of good people, which is God's command: O You who believe, fear God and be among the truthful ones(Quran, 9:119). It is astonishing how people can influence others simply by being in each other's company. The company one keeps has major effects. This effect does not appear suddenly, but is a gradual process that unfolds with time. " *

i completely agree with all of what was said, but i have different opinions to whether or not good ppl should always try to keep the company of only good ppl. the reason is because..how do the other ppl change? i feel like it is wrong to categorize and seperate ppl who do things that are "not good" the thing is if u leave those ppl alone or try to "stay away from them" then they will always be like that, convert more ppl to be like them, and keep doing bad things.

i guess my point is...i purposely try to hang out with ppl i feel are misguided...now im not saying that all my friends are bad, im just saying that i kno i hav a bunch of friends who do things that are unacceptable, or just dont constantly keep in mind that they are Muslims with every move they make...but i love my friends and because of that i like to stay with them and be their "constant reminder" i guess.

Above in the quote it says that ppl are easily influenced by their company, thats very very true...so that's y i try to be a 'good influence' its hard cuz hey i can get influenced too. (influenced to do the bad things) my problem is getting easily tempted. i guess its real important to be able to trust yourself and have confidence in your faith if u wanna be able to influence others to do good things.

** my question is....is it wrong of me to want to hang out w/ ppl who don't care too much about islam as i do...cuz i think i can help them? am i hurting myself by doing that?

I wouldn't say its wrong. But it's hard. trust me I tried walahi I fell straight into thier trap. But alhamdulillah my parents pulled me out in the nick of time. cause well Ive been going to Islamic school all my life, Last year I went to public school and the first semester I was hanging out with all the good people. then later on I don't know really exactly what I was thinking and stuff but one of the "cool" guys jsut started hanging out with me and me and him would play football with a few otehr kids and things like that. *let me tell you MY WEAKNESS IS GIRLS!* before like the first time I met this guy he asked me "Hey dude! So are you like, Islamic?" I first laughed at this. but then i told him yeah.and he was like yeah thats cool. anyways so I hung out with these "cool" guys for a while. until one day I went to buy shoes, I bought shoes exactly like theirs! *skater* Then the girls came in to my life........ Instant messages, meeting in the park. PHHONE CALLS! I think the phone calls really is the first thing that made me realize what was I doing? cause I didnt have a cell ohone right. So this one girl calls my house and my mom answers and Im upstairs and my mom was like"who wants him? WHAT! NO OMAR HERE!" and my mom was real pissed and stuff and anyway SUMMER CAME! 1 week into summer. My parents take me to syria! (where Im from) So there I had fun and stuff but I was always getting this feeling liek Something is missing. Anyways so my dad went back to USA earlier then me and mom and bros for job. So while he was in USA he opened up my PC and AIM was on. My dad talked to EVERY GIRL i ever talked to. but while I was in syria I changed, not because of my dad catching me cause I didn't knwo about that till I came back to america. I changed because Me and my grandfather were the GREATEST OF FREINDS! I cant even express how much me and him loved each other. So I always slept over at his house and we would stay up watching TV and stuff So one night I was over at his house it was around 8:30 at night. and he wasn't feeling good. SO all of a sudden he just sayes to me. Please get out of the house Omar and go to your mom's house and sleep there tonight. ANd I was liek why? please let me stay! and he didn't let me stay what so ever. so I brought him some advil and kissed his hand and he said " allah erda 3leek" means may god be pleased with you. SO next morning I called him, and he didn't answer. Then after 30min my uncle calls me and tells me that my grandfather is dead. I saw him on the ground dead. I saw him being cleaned, I saw him being buried. I saw him last night talking and joking with me.

Subhanallah. Ever since then I became my self. And when I came back to america me and my dad had a son-to-dad talk about girls and stuff. and then I had the choice of public school or Islamic school. and I choose Islamic. All my muslim freinds were like ARE YOU CRAZY! YOU CHOOSE ISLAMIC OVER PUBLIC! and I was like "you don't know what you're saying!"

lol ok I think this is long enough so alhamdulillah Ill conclude with BE CAREFUL! ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER AND SOMETIMES IT TAKES A DISASTER TO WAKE YOU UP FROM THE DARKNESS YOU DONT KNOW YOUR IN!

wow that was touching. Every1 goes through weaknesses in their life. I've went through many weaknesses, and some i fell deeper down mroe than others; but alhamdulillah every1 time something would happen Allah will send someone something or some sign that would tug me back up. I regret so many things I've did in my life. Buh I learned from my mistakes, and im grateful for how Allah (swt) gives us these rules and limits. I mean yah we alwyz hear Islamic is a way of life. Buh how many times did u actually sit and think that it really is-its not just a book filled with haram or halal, and wha u can do wha u cant. It's really a way of life. And many of the islamic teachings reflect many of the other religions. Giving charity, being polite, smiling, respecting elders---these r all characteristics of a good person, not just a Muslim. Islamic teaches us so many great things, thats a part of our life. Many people have it that their 'Muslim' on Fridays, and other days they dnt do tehri daily prayers, and dnt act like a proper Muslim---this is wrong, this is how all the religions haev turned into (church on sudnay, do bad stuff the rest of the week). We cnt be 2 ppl at once, we have 2 be one person. Many ppl think to have fun you cnt tie in religion, but thats not true. You can have fun and still be a proper Muslim, you can hang out with ure friends, and still be a good Muslim. k now im startign 2 go off topic...buh u gyz get where im coming from. ;-) yallah ma3asalama

In the name of Allah the Compassionate, the Merciful

AYAHS OF THE DAY: Allah does wish to make clear to you and to show you the ordinances of those before you; and (He does wish to) turn to you (in mercy); and Allah is all knowing, all Wise. Allah does wish to turn to you, but the wish of those who follow their lusts is that you should turn away (from Him) far, far away. Allah does wish to lighten your (difficulties); for man was created weak. [4: 26, 27, 28]

HADITH OF THE DAY: None amongst you should observe fast on Friday, but only that he observes a fast before or after it. [Muslim]

WISE QUOTE OF THE DAY: Truth is timeless, and returning to truth is better than continuing in falsehood. [Omar Radi Allahu anhu]

GUIDANCE OF THE DAY: The actions of those who strive out of hope are more resplendent and exalted than one whose striving is compelled by fear. This is especially true when the benefits of one's acts touch the lives of others, which is the case with sadaqa (charity) for the needy. There is so much hope in Islam, its creed and ethos are rife with optimism and buoyancy. Planting a tree from which birds eat reaps the planter reward so long as that tree stands.

Of particular benefit is that which extends beyond the individual or is difficult for the self, such as fasting for the glutton, one who has a difficult time controlling his or her food intake. The principle applies to the miser who is blessed enough to recognize his shortcoming, that he should battle his soul by giving charity, detaching himself from his want of wealth and its hoarding, no matter the internal resistance. The miser should give to cleanse his heart of miserliness; and the fear of poverty should not prevent him from giving. [Purification of the heart]

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: An educated man knows his rights and knows how to defend them, time does not hang heavily on his hand, he can be alone, he is never at a loss for what to do with time.

Please pass this along by copying & pasting the content. JAZAKALLAH
The recompense of one who directs somebody to do good deed will be equal to the reward of the latter. [Muslim]

The Lord Almighty ordained, "Find leisure for My service and I shall fill your hearts with peace and enrich you in bounty,"[al Hadith al Qudsi]

Well, nametallah u answered your own question. It matters, who has the sronger influence in your friendship. If it is you then well thats great your making others better. But if you are getting affected then obviously thats a problem you have to deal with. Also you said that you purposely hang out with people like that. You should really try to hangout with good company because if you are around people who are religious it will affect you and make you better.

In the name of Allah the Compassionate, the Merciful

AYAHS OF THE DAY: O you who believe! eat not up your property among yourselves in vanities; except it be a trade by mutual consent, and kill not one another. Surely Allah is ever Merciful to you. Whoever does that through aggression and injustice, We shall cast him into fire, and that is ever easy for Allah. [4: 29, 30]

HADITH OF THE DAY: A man marries a woman for four reasons i.e. either for the sake of her wealth, her lineage, her charms or her love of religion. Try to get one for her religiousness, may you be blessed. [Bukhari & Muslim]

WISE QUOTE OF THE DAY: Succeed with knowledge and live energetically forever, men are all dead, only the possessors of knowledge are truly alive. [Ali Radi Allahu anhu]

GUIDANCE OF THE DAY: Of particular benefit is that which extends beyond the individual or is difficult for the self, or the years of youth spend in avoiding wrongs and in willing obedience, or the contribution from the miser from the best of his wealth when he is of sound mind, seeking thereby the pleasure of God with absolute sincerity. All of these purify the heart, Moreover, doing a good deed which one conceals is also purifying; and the best of endeavors is one that purifies the heart.

Likewise, the most harmful of wrongs is what hardens the heart and was done with consistency. One of them is speaking a lot without mentioning God.
Sages have preferred a wrong that engenders humility to a right that clothes one in a gown of self righteous arrogance. An atom's weight of exalted praise worthy action from the heart-----like contentment with what one has, detachment from worldly things, and reliance (upon God) is better in God's sight than high mountains of external actions (without sincerity).

Indeed leaving a dollar because it is from a prohibited source is better than giving much in charity and (better than) several pilgrimages.[Purification of the heart]

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: An educated person knows the ways of the human heart; he is hard to cheat or fool, he can form healthy attachments where ever he is because he understands the dynamics of healthy relationships.

ths true knowledge is power, you can do almost everything with it. It's really important for Muslims to get a good education and use their brains to the best of their ability-if our intention of learning is for Islam it's a form of Ibada. And imagine if every single Muslim where among the smartest ppl imagine what we can do with this world...
